Erich Fromm

About the author

Born in Frankfurt am Main in 1900, Erich Fromm was a German-American social psychologist, psychoanalyst, sociologist, humanistic philosopher, and democratic socialist whose work bridged Freudian theory and social critique. A German Jew, he fled the Nazi regime and settled in the United States, where he became one of the founders of the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis and Psychology in New York City. He was also associated with the Frankfurt School of critical theory.

He died in Muralto in 1980.
